There are many reasons why someone would write a blog. Maybe there is something pretentious about it all you know? Assuming people want to read or care about what you are writing about. I assure you there is no pretentious pretense here. This is just a way for me to compartmentalize any musings or thoughts in one place that will hopefully be fruitful and creative.

I have a big interest in film and television especially and I’m twenty seven. I figure that like a lot of people who are now past the quarter century mark a blog is something that is quite common for people to express creativity and ideas cohesively.

So aside from being twenty seven. I’m male, have a shaved head, an extremely average build. And by that description I’m not trying to be vague, the word ‘average’ is extremely accurate in describing my physical appearance – slight beer belly but wear it well with being 6″2.

Now I’ve painted such an eloquent picture of my looks I’ll explain a little about my interests (I’ve been instructed by a scattering of Google searches to keep the first post brief in order to avoid reader boredom). I love cinema. I just adore films and the emotions they deliver to me. I am currently a high school teacher where I have taught film and media for the last five years and my dream is still to write and direct full time. On the side I make short films and absolutely love the creative process of filmmaking.

Over the last ten years I have watched (and studied) the works of David Lynch, Pedro Almodovar, Michael Haneke but to name a few but I am constantly surprised, amazed and inspired by an array of work from all over the world. Cinema for me and many others is often a cathartic and emotional experience. Last year when watching Ari Aster’s Hereditary I was spellbound by the visionary auteur style of the film. It took me back to the first time I saw Blue Velvet or Paul Thomas Anderson’s There Will Be Blood. There was just something so breathtaking and unreal about the film which made me sink into my cinema seat feeling absolutely tantalized. Aster’s Midsommar is a must-see for me.

I also love television. TV shows like Twin Peaks, The Wire, Breaking Bad & Six Feet Under are things I have enjoyed immensely. There does seem to be a common critical view nowadays that heavy television drama is as popular as and as quality-packed as high end cinema and I would tend to agree. I remember the days before Netflix when I was sixteen and in my first year of college. One day during a non-eventful holiday week I ventured into the local library’s DVD rental section and took out both series of Twin Peaks. This was the beginning of my obsession with all things Lynch and such I do believe that TV can open up all sorts of inspirational doors. Speaking of Lynch, I am super excited to go to the Manchester HOME Lynch exhibitions and see Blue Velvet and Mulholland Drive on the big screen – where they deserve to be seen.

Anyway, what was intended as a short and snappy first post has quickly evolved into something more prolonged. So on that note, thanks for stopping by and I’ll be writing my first ‘proper’ post shortly on something film based, or even something more real and personal.

Ciao.
